OMG! If I had a time machine or something, I don't know if I would be able to choose only 1 destination! As a history geek as I am, there are so many things I want to see in the past! ;;
For instance, I wouldn't mind to see ancient Egypt, Greece or Babylon. I'd like to make sure if Buddha or Jesus Christ really existed. Aaaand, I think it would be interesting to see battles in medieval time, or theatre in Elizabethan era. I'd totally kill to see exploratory voyages to America in the 1600s or the 7 years war battle of Europe in the 18th century. Of course, the whole 19th century is love, specially the Victorian era. As for the 20th century, my loves goes for the Edwardian era <3

Of course, having a time machine implies you can return to your time whenever you want! ^__^ Travelling through time would be like sightseeing other countries!

By real king you mean totalitarian kings? Not sure about other countries, but in England, the king (can't remember his name, I think it was James-something but I'm not sure) was forced to sign the Magna Carta in 1215, which lessened his powers as king. It was the beginning of the first Parliament... in middle aged times! Of course, there were kings like the Stuart dynasty, who lived way past the middle age in the 17th century, but believed "OMG I'm a king and my divine powers come from God, I don't have to call that stupid Parliament LOL!!1"--> Charles Stuart was one and he was finally put to death after a civil war ^^;;;

OMG, it would be great to go back to Jurassic/Cretaceous era and see the dinosaurs!! *__* But I'm afraid we would be eaten by Velociraptors LOL XD
